Your challenges

The Scientific Computing group of our client is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Linux System Administrator. The ideal candidate is a highly reliable professional who maintains operational stability and provides hardware and middleware support. Role Purpose
  • To locally support scientific informatics infrastructure and platforms (ICL) for Computational Scientists in CP R&D
  • To maintain and support Informatics applications and services critical to the success of CP R&D through service delivery and/or application support and change
  • To provide expert leadership in the utilization of platforms and applications
  • To support and champion exploration of new technologies and methods in support to CP R&D
  • To lead continuous service improvement

Your responsibilities include, (but not limited to):
  • Support and improve the local computing infrastructure (hardware and middleware)
  • To support and champion exploration of new technologies and methods to support Research activities (virtualization, cloud, etc.)
  • Support continuous service improvement
  • Expand local Infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud lab or other cloud solutions where appropriate


Your skills

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator or equivalent certification and/or equivalent experience as a Linux System Administrator
  • Experience with automation and open-source configuration software management (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef)
  • Solid knowledge of version control systems (namely Git) and the principles of Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience physically setting up and provisioning Linux-based hardware resources (computing, storage, network)
  • Ability to work with infrastructure observability, monitoring, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Autonomy and capacity to architect solutions to complex infrastructure challenges
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge on container orchestration systems (namely Kubernetes) and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation ecosystem
  • Knowledge on disaster prevention and recovery
  • Basic knowledge of programming and software development on modern object-oriented languages (e.g., Python)
  • Basic understanding of Cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS)
  • Basic knowledge of computer networks (e.g., OSI model)
